AskK12 chat widget — Last updated: October 2026
When a district adds a tool to its website, the district is responsible for making sure everyone can use it, including families who rely on screen readers, keyboards, or zoom. WCAG 2.1 Level AA is the standard the U.S. Department of Justice adopted for state and local government websites under ADA Title II, and it is the standard we built the AskK12 chat widget to meet.
Our report, based on VPAT® Version 2.5Rev (WCAG edition), documents the chat widget's support, and its one known limitation, for all 50 WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA success criteria. Of the 50, the widget supports 36, partially supports 1, and 13 do not apply.

When the language of a reply can’t be reliably detected, such as very short or mixed-language text, a screen reader may read it with English pronunciation. Our report lists this as Partially Supports under 3.1.2 Language of Parts.
Automated testing with axe-core, manual keyboard testing, screen reader testing with VoiceOver, mobile testing on iPhone, color contrast measurement, and code review. Testing used a test chatbot with sample content.
This statement and our report cover the AskK12 chat widget that visitors use on district websites. They do not cover this website (askk12.com), the dashboard district staff use to manage their chatbot, or content districts supply, such as their own web pages and the answers they write.
If you have trouble using an AskK12 chatbot, or need our report in another format, email support@askk12.com. Please include the district website and what happened. We aim to respond within two business days.
We’re glad to walk your technology or accessibility team through the report.
